The Festival 2006

The Festival, 2006.

Cheltenham is known for it's festivals. 'The Festival' held at Cheltenham Racecourse between the 14th and 17th of March 2006 saw many of Britain and Irelands Jockeys race on the finest horses over the old and new courses at Cheltenham. With 232,983 race goers enjoying the event, Cheltenham as a town was vibrant with the racecourse heaving.

Cheltenham Stage Services and sister company Production:av worked in the largest venue- 'The Centaur' to relay the races on a large screen and enhanced sound system. Bands were also put on by Wychwood Festival in the evening to help entertain the race goers.

The Peatbog Faerie's and Doreen Doreen

Tuesday and Wednesday saw Doreen Doreen entertaining the guest with their eclectic and energised performance of various covers of well known songs. Thursday and Friday saw The Peatbog Faerie's taking a celtic slant to the proceedings. Both bands enjoyed the event. CSS's Lee Dreezer looked after the sound system (consisting of the houses Meyer M1D flown Line Array, and CSS's Meyer MSL4 and 650P rig, with Allen & Heath ML4000 for FOH), whilst Chris Jones took care of the monitors for both bands.

Andy Bartlett operated the lighting rig, designed by CSS's Greg Szabo, with the Peatbog's traveling with their own LD. The lighting rig consisted of an assortment of PARs (both standard and ACL types) and Martin Mac500 for effect and beam looks. All this was controlled through the industry standard Avolites Pearl.

For once the video crew had the edge over the lighting crew- even being asked to turn the screen down as it was too bright! 30sqm of Barco DLite7 took the Racetech feeds, via Production:av's control Equipment. Two cameras were provided to add Imag capabilities for the evening events, one locked off, the other operated by usual freelancer Mike Simpson.

The work by CSS and Production:av was up to the usual high standards of both companies as demonstrated by the positive comments from the bands and Edward Gillespie the Cheltenham Racecourse MD.
